Letter from the President of the ALWS

Dear colleagues and friends,

Let us again express how sorry we are about the fact that we had to postpone this year’s symposium. But the ongoing pandemic and continued restrictions imposed on the organisation of large events made the centennial symposium that we were all looking forward to – not only as an academic, but also as a sociable and truly international symposium bringing together Wittgenstein students and scholars from all continents – simply impossible.

There is, however, an online-event to which we would like to invite you. The international conference on Wittgenstein and the Vienna Circle will take place from June 10 to 12, 2021. It has been co-organised by the Institute Vienna Circle and the Austrian Ludwig Wittgenstein Society. The lecture by Marjorie Perloff will be hosted by the Austrian National Library. For further information see:

Additionally, we would like to draw your attention to the “Wittgenstein-Dossier” with which the Wiener Zeitung celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Tractatus:

We are confident that the Wittgenstein-symposia and summer schools in the next two years will be as successful as in previous years. We would like to thank our team in Kirchberg and Mayor Fuchs very much for their excellent cooperation, even under these difficult conditions.

With all best wishes,

Elisabeth Nemeth (President of the ALWS)
David Wagner (General Secretary of the ALWS)
